Welcome to Jefferson High School!
As I enter my 30th year as an educator, I feel blessed that I have been able to spend the last 13 years serving as principal of Jefferson High School. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Arts and Education degree from the University of Toledo. I previously served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal at Airport High School for 9 years. Before working in public schools, I taught English as a Second Language in the federal prison system for 6 years and spent 2 years teaching math and social studies in a juvenile detention facility. I also served as a board of education member for Monroe Public Schools for 17 years.
I believe in the power of education as students prepare to enter the adult world. We have worked hard to give our students as many opportunities as possible to prepare them for post-secondary opportunities. Whether students follow a pathway related to one or our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, A.P. classes, Direct College or Dual Enrollment, our staff works diligently to help direct students to the educational areas that match their interests and aptitudes.
We also believe in the importance of co-curricular and extra-curricular programs and activities to give students a meaningful and well-rounded high school experience, whether it be in music, athletics, robotics, student council or our newly established Upward Bound program.
Our goal at JHS is to help every student reach their full potential as they prepare for a meaningful and purposeful life beyond high school.
